CEDIE was established in 1942 with a very ambitious purpose: the production of fuels and other derivatives, through a carbochemical process, via the vertical integration of the production of lime, calcium carbide, acetylene and its subsequent polymerization.

The fact that O Barco de Valdeorras, in the province of Ourense, was the only place in the Autonomous Community of Galicia where limestone of the appropriate quality could be found, determined the location of the company in this locality.

Since its birth more than seven decades ago, CEDIE has constantly increased its business activity with the expansion of its range of products. At the beginning of the 80s, CEDIE started the production of cored wire for steel mills and in the year 2000 for its application in the manufacturing of nodular and gray iron. Likewise, the company is developing its sales activity of various raw materials and the commercialization of desulfurization reagent.

In 2011, the construction of a new cored wire production plant was completed together with the modernization of the production lines and auxiliary equipment.
